        To many people, pets are more than just entertaining animals that live in, or outside of, the home.  They are best friends, family members, heroes, and so much more than words can possibly describe.  When a pet passes away, it is very common for people to mourn their pet like they would any other valued member of the family.  This is a completely normal process that can take a lifetime to cope with.  Below, Katie has listed several websites, books, and support groups that can be of great comfort to anybody who has lost a pet either recently, or quite some time ago.

Day By Day Pet Caregiver Support 
Day By Day Pet Caregiver Support Circles provide a safe, secure, non-judgmental environment where you can share your feelings and struggles regarding your pet care giving or pet loss experience  Through discussions with other pet caregivers, you'll learn that YOU ARE NOT ALONE! Day By Day is a non profit organization, and all services are completely free.  Aside from monthly support circle meetings, Day By Day also offers a 24 hour hotline number, yahoo group, and monthly chat rooms.  Please check our calendar on our Events page for more details about when and where support circles will be held.

The Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement
This is an association based out of New Jersey.  The website has a lot of information, and the association hosts chat rooms to discuss pet loss every day of the week.

Pet Loss Support Page
This website has pages and pages of information about grief, how to talk to children about death, pet loss support hotline numbers, and links to very unique pet memorial keepsakes.

Healing and Inspirational Poetry
This website has many comforting poems.
